Joep van Lieshout

 

Joep van Lieshout is one of the most successful and best-selling artists in the Netherlands. He is known for its huge 'human' objects of colored polyester, like a womb, a penis or intestines. Van Lieshout was born in Brabant (1963, Ravenstein) but AVL studio is located in Rotterdam.

 

For Lensvelt AVL has designed many special pieces of furniture that have become very popular amongst many Dutch interior designers. His designs have, such as AVL Shaker and AVL Office Chair, have become modern classics in the interior design industry.

Many things that inspired Joep van Lieshout to create art, have also inspired him to design furniture. The AVL Shaker was named after a close community with bizarre habits, at the end of the 19th century lived in America. This community has also inspired van Lieshout in 2002 to establish his own community, AVL Ville.
