LENSVELT WINS A MILANO DESIGN AWARD SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE?

Lensvelt, a Dutch office and project furniture manufacturer, has won the prestigious Milano Design Award for Best Concept for the second time.

The Milano Design Award is also known as the “Oscars of the international design world”.

Attention as currency. We share our opinions, like, shout, advise and give each other compliments.

Every year at the Salone del Mobile we witness this cry for attention. Large corporations with spectacular presentations, young designers with renewed ideas. See me, hear me, look at my work!
This was the inspiration for Maarten Baas to shamelessly use the title “May I Have Your Attention Please?”.

This installation, which is also part of his solo exhibition in the Groninger Museum, features dozens of whispering horns that come together as a whole. May I Have Your Attention Please? is the presentation of the Maarten Baas 101 chair, designed by Maarten Baas for Lensvelt. Just like opinions, each chair is unique.

Lensvelt is more than just a furniture producer.

Their mission is to provide architects and interior designers with the tools to create innovative interiors. Creativity is always the common denominator. All new concepts are launched in the epicentre of the design world – Milan.

Lensvelt bridges the commercial world and innovative designers. The family company was founded in 1962 with the ambition to make design available for a larger audience.

They like to call themselves “The People’s Manufacturer”. In this vein, the Maarten Baas 101 Chair costs € 275,-.

Lensvelt products are designed by the most remarkable and innovative artists, architects, and designers, such as Studio Job, Marcel Wanders, Bertjan Pot, Richard Hutten and Atelier Van Lieshout. The collaboration with Maarten Baas was a result of the efforts of curator Anne van der Zwaag.

Baas is one of the most influential Dutch designers of the 21st century. His work balances on the line between art and design and is rebellious, humorous, artistic and theatrical. His works have been included in the collections of the most renowned museums, such as the MoMA, the Victoria & Albert, Les Arts Décoratifs, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Die Neue Sammlung, the Stedelijk Museum and the Rijksmuseum.
