The Movement hotel – bijlmer bajes 4-1-2018

Lensvelt partners with refugees in The Movement Hotel

Lensvelt delivered the furniture last year for a special project: The Movement Hotel. A pop-up hotel staffed by refugees, in one of the towers of the Amsterdam Bijlmerbajes, one of the most notorious former prisons in the Netherlands. With Atelier van Lieshout’s Glyder sofas and SPR Cathedras, and the stackable This 100 PP chairs and barstools by Richard Hutten, Lensvelt transformed the lobby and common areas into a colorful and inspiring environment. A place where visitors now come to stay voluntarily and comfortably.

The Movement Hotel – Bijlmer bajes

The Movement Hotel was opened in August 2017. The hotel, situated in one of the towers of the former prison, is an initiative of Movement On The Ground (a non-profit organization that initiates projects for refugees) and the Refugee Company (which helps refugees integrate through work). The aim is to get refugees in the workforce as quickly as possible, helping them adjust to a new life in the Netherlands. In collaboration with multiple partners, part of the infamous prison has turned into a colourful, stimulating and comfortable hotel. Lensvelt supplied furniture that is specially designed for high use reception areas such as the lobby and the common areas of The Movement Hotel.

The Movement Hotel – Bijlmer bajes

The Bijlmerbajes sees red
Based on the design by Chris Burghard of ÈMCÉ interior architecture, the salmon-pink reception room was fitted with inviting bright red Lensvelt furniture, such as the remarkable AVL Glyders, benches with a dynamic back that can “glyde” back and forth as desired. AVL SPR Cathedras, luxurious armchairs with armrests, and the ultra-light and stackable This 100 PP chairs and barstools by Richard Hutten. The concept was created and realized within five weeks. That meant working hard for both Burghart and Lensvelt to create a place where its guests – voluntarily – want to be.

The Movement Hotel – Bijlmer bajes

As a committed furniture design label supporting the circular economy, Lensvelt likes to work on initiatives where the furniture is part of a circular use model; the furniture in The Movement Hotel remains the property of Lensvelt and will be reused when the temporary hotel closes.

The Movement Hotel – Bijlmer bajes

Lensvelt will continue to be involved in meaningful initiatives such as this one, also in the new year. With this wish, Lensvelt wishes everyone with whom it has worked together on beautiful, remarkable, and award-winning projects, a happy new year and more special collaborations in 2018!

Lensvelt partnert met vluchtelingen in The Movement Hotel

The Movement Hotel – Bijlmer bajes

The Movement Hotel werd in augustus 2017 geopend.

The Movement Hotel – Bijlmer bajes

The Movement Hotel – Bijlmer bajes

The Movement Hotel – Bijlmer bajes

Edward van Vliet at Salon Residence

Edward van Vliet’s eyecatcher on Salon Residence:
a filing system inspired by the Cabinet of Curiosities
A breathtaking picture at Salon Residence in Laren, last week. In one of the rooms of the historical Singer Museum, Edward van Vliet created an extrordinary office environment. With an extraordinary filing cabinet.
Like a 3D diary
Van Vliet got inspired by the glass Cabinets of Curiosities we know from musea or biology class at school. The ones with bizarre objects and glasses with body parts in it. “I wanted to make a filing cabinet full of beautiful, curious objects, that tell a special story. A cabinet like a 3D diary.” The rest of the room was furbished in the same style of Art, Science and Dutch Old Masters. The clouds on the ceiling looked like a Rembrandt painting. The portraits on the wall – pictures from Rademakers Gallery – were also in Old Masters style.
With his extraordinary filing cabinet, Edward Van Vliet wants to inspire the makers of office interiors. “Show the beautiful and curious objects that tell a story about you or your work in your office environment. Any professional can do this. With a filing cabinet made partly out of glass, all offices can have a Cabinet of Curiosities on their own. “

Album Armarium will soon be available with a “Cabinet of Curiosities” option – Lensvelt will keep you posted on this.

Simo’s rattan rocks

Cane Divan: a ‘hidden gem’ from Finland…
Simo Heikkilä’s rattan chair rocks
LENSVELT CONTRACT, HERENGRACHT 178, 1016BR AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
>>Cane Divans at the Lensvelt booth on Salone del Mobile. Price: € 750 excl. VAT excluding transport costs. Click here to order.
t’s a genuine successtory… just with a little delay. The Cane Divan draw a jealousmaking lot of attention during Salone del Mobile 2015 – but was designed already years ago by the Finnish professor Simo Heikkilä. It was the favorite of many journalists and bloggers. This year the Cane Divan was taken back in production by Lensvelt as an honor to the Maarten Van Severen collection. No wonder the bloggers speak of it as a ‘hidden gem’.
In the nineties, Heikkilä gave workshops at the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki together with his friend the Flemish furniture designer Maarten Van Severen. At that time, Hans Lensvelt saw the chair for the first time in the atelier of his friend Maarten Van Severen in Gent.
It was love at first sight. Lensvelt: “The combination of materials: rattan with an industrial green stainless steel frame, the total unique and elegant composition… This chaise longue is not new, but certainly one of the most beautiful and most comfortable chaise longues that I know….”

>> English version below
Kunstenares presenteert overzichtswerk bij Lensvelt:
Nederlands design-icoon Maroeska Metz
veroverde de hele wereld met een krul
LENSVELT CONTRACT, HERENGRACHT 178, 1016BR AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
Donderdag 14 mei 2015 // 17:00 – 20:00 uur
Lensvelt Contract, Herengracht 178, Amsterdam

Lensvelt proud to present a survey work of her products:
Dutch design icon Maroeska Metz
conquered the world with a curl
LENSVELT CONTRACT, HERENGRACHT 178, 1016BR AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
Thursday, May 14, 2015 // 17:00 until 20:00 h.
Lensvelt Contract, Herengracht 178, Amsterdam
In the early nineties Dutch artist Maroeska Metz conquered the international design world with a curl. It was the time of Monica Lewinsky and Beverly Hills 90210. In well-informed circles the cups, sofas and lamps with the trademark of Metz were the silent sign of a good taste.
The international editions of VOGUE and ELLE, Architectural Digest and World of Interiors could either not get enough of Metz work. Companies queued to have one of their products enchanted with a curl and the Dutch designer was asked for an impressive list of (solo) exhibitions in museums and galleries from Antwerp to Japan.

Finally a survey of her work is coming up, composed by journalists René and Barbara Stoeltie. On May 14th Maroeska Metz will present her book at the Lensvelt headquarters. The location is everything but a coincidence.
The mirror on the picture below, taken at Hans Lensvelts farm in Belgium, shows the manufacturer is a great admirer of Maroeska Metz work.

Invitation to book launch
The festive presentation of the book about the works of Maroeska Metz will take place on May 14, 2015 from 17:00 to 20:00 in the Lensvelt building at Herengracht 178, 1016 BR Amsterdam.

Maroeska Metz herself will be present to sign the book. During the party guests can visit a temporary exhibition of Maroeska’s work, that will be on the location until the end of May.

Beefeater Rectangle: the darling of our visitors

Bertjan Pot’s ‘twisted table’ now available with rectangle top:
Beefeater Rectangle: darling of our Milan visitors
LENSVELT CONTRACT, HERENGRACHT 178, 1016BR AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
Rectangle with legs that look alive
It was showered with compliments last week in Milan: the Beefeater Rectangle, a design of Bertjan Pot that was one of the ‘fabulous five’ on the Lensvelt booth. It was the darling of the visitors from the very first day.
The rectangle brother of the original oval Beefeater table is standing on legs that look alive. The design has a touch of bestiality. Mary Hessink, editor in chief from the Dutch magazine Eigen Huis and Interieur: “I love it. It makes me think of an animal”.

UNM: a sleek workstation system to serve the architect
Lensvelt travels Nina’s ‘Chanel Couture’ to Milan
★★★ Located at Tuttobene stand, Officine della Torneria, Via Novi 5 ★★★
LENSVELT CONTRACT, HERENGRACHT 178, 1016BR AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
Large scale office gardens – a persistent challenge in the world of architects. The draft designs always look crisp, sleek and spacious however the reality presents us with something very different. Workstation units are inconsistent as every worktop needs to be adjustable in height – due to HS regulations –, leaving one with a lesser-streamlined design and an intended result that is never met. A misery for the architect as they preferably require one thing: Seamlessly fitting work units that are consistent and coherent with the interior design.
What thearchitect needs is a work unit that fits like a Chanel. “A classic that isn’t garish but contemporary to its context” says Nina Graziosi, the in The Hague based interior architect. Graziosi noticed a great amiss when designing large-scale office projects and in collaboration with Lensvelt devised a list of thirteen requirements by which the ideal workstations needed to adhere. Hereafter followed the development and production of UNM (pronounced as ‘You and Me’). And the result.. will be presented at the Zone Tortona during the Salone del Mobile in Milan.
UNM is unique in the technology by which the worktops are adjustable in height. In almost every other system that is currently available the technology is built in either the legs or side panels of the desks. With UNM this technology has been placed in a horizontal band around the desktop, maintaining a sleek look. Graziosi – a born Italian – calls this part La Macchina (machinery).
An additional perk for material fetishists is the countless options UNM has to offer through the application of different finishing materials on the side panels and the horizontal band. Whether it is marble, copper, felt or even transparent polyester: all of these can be applied, thus creatively fine-tuning this extraordinary workstation system.

LENSVELT CONTRACT, HERENGRACHT 178, 1016BR AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

NO SOLO – Lensvelt brings 5 new products to Milan

>>Nederlands onderaan
NO SOLO in MILAN
★★★ Via Novi 5, Zone Tortona ★★★
Hans Lensvelt: “No solo show, but a rich mix of products from different designers. That’s the mood we are in, during Salone Milan 2015. Except UNM, the exciting new system by Nina Graziosi, we will present new products by Bertjan Pot, Richard Hutten, Simo Heikkilä and Edward van Vliet. Ingredients for interiors, to inspire interior designers.”
BERTJAN POT
BEEFEATER RECTANGLE
The collaboration between Lensvelt and Bertjan Pot started in 2013 with the introduction of the much discussed Beefeater table with a blade in the form of an elliptical oval. This year, a new Beefeater is presented in Milan: the Beefeater Rectangle, with a rectangular top.
RICHARD HUTTEN
THIS CHAIR FELT
This year, Milan experiences a ‘renaissance’; of This Chair, the multifunctional chair that Richard Hutten designed for Lensvelt in 2005. The chair is born again… but now with a felt seating. This oldest form of textile in the world is applied on This Chair Felt in 50 different shades of gray. Durable, budget-friendly and very ‘2015’.
SIMO HEIKKILÄ
CANE DIVA
In the studio of his friend Maarten Van Severen saw Hans Lensvelt the Cane Diva for the first time. It was love at first sight. Lensvelt: “The combination of materials: rattan with an industrial green stainless steel frame, the total unique and elegant composition… This chaise longue is not new, but certainly one of the most beautiful and most comfortable chaise lounges that I know….”
EDWARD VAN VLIET
ALBUM ARMARIUM
An ingenious concept of Edward van Vliet: Album Armarium. Existing file cabinets with a ‘list’ of plywood and Styrofoam transformed into a unique storage unit, which gives a totally different look to workspaces and offices. Durable, flexible and a brilliant move for interior designers who want to achieve a top result with few resources.
NINA GRAZIOSI
UNM (You and Me)
A no-nonsende system of workdesks whith the technique hidden in the central panel, which creates the ability for the architect to perform the side panels of the desk in any desired material. UNM has been developed to serve the architect and interior designer to make better interiors.

NO SOLO in MILAAN
★★★ Via Novi 5, Zone Tortona ★★★
RICHARD HUTTEN
THIS CHAIR FELT

NINA GRAZIOSI
UNM (You and Me)

Chairs inspired by biscuit factory Verkade
PIET HEIN EEK STORE, EINDHOVEN – Products of the co-operation between Hans Lensvelt and Piet Hein Eek: the Made in the Workshop furniture. TAILOR-MADE FOR A TERRORIST

AVL Shaker: chair for rockstars and a terrorist
AVL Shaker Chair was designed for a terrorist called Una Bomber in Minneapolis and used in a hotelroom for rockstars and their groupies in the Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam. Read more about the story behind this chair by Atelier Van Lieshout below, or click here to order.

LLOYD HOTEL, AMSTERDAM – The Rock Music Room is one of the most remarkable rooms in the famous Lloyd Hotel in Amsterdam. You could say it’s tailor-made for rockstars. A Multi-women bed for at least seven groupies is installed, and all kinds of equipment are available to play all night long without disturbing any other hotel guest. Even the windows can be blocked with panels to create darkness, so the night seems to be ever-lasting. The Lloyd Hotel was redesigned by MVRDV in 2004. AVL Shaker Chair is available in the webshop in wood or with a grey coating. Dimensions 53 x 48 x 71 cm. Price: €200,- excl. VAT. Click here to order.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly…
In 1998, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis commissioned Atelier Van Lieshout to make a mobile art lab: a youth centre on wheels that could bring the good word of art and culture to schools and people from poorer neighbourhoods throughout the state of Minnesota. AVL took on the task, with one condition: to add a darker side to the museum’s good intentions.
‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’ was an installation composed by a trailer, a house and extension. The good things were concentrated in the trailer. In the Black House, bad things happened. The imaginairy occupant of this house was the Una Bomber, a terrorist that used the house for making bombs and weapons. For him, Joep Van Lieshout made the first prototypes of the AVL Shaker furniture.
Hans Lensvelt was impressed by the concept and immediately recognized the quality and the uniqueness of the design. He approached Joep van Lieshout for a cooperation. They have been cooperating ever since and Atelier Van Lieshout has become one of the most important designers for Lensvelt Contract.

Hun werk stond al in New York, Parijs, Tokio.
A FAMILY AFFAIR – opening zondag 12 oktober 2014
15:00 uur inloop, 16:00 uur openingswoord door Hans Lensvelt

Unique exhibition with ‘hot’ work
by two generations Van Severen
‘A Family Affair’ is the appropriate title of a unique exhibition about the Van Severens, held in the Dom in Utrecht from 12 October. The Workshop of Wonders showroom displays furniture produced by Lensvelt and designed by the Flemish designer Maarten Van Severen, who died in 2005, as well as several masterpieces by Muller and Van Severen.
Muller and Van Severen- that is Hannes Van Severen and his talented partner Fien Muller. Together, they mainly make welded installations with a simple look, surprising shapes, and quirky styling.
Their work has been shown in New York, Paris, Tokyo. Muller and Van Severen are so ‘hot’ that Workshop of Wonders had to go through some trouble to organize the exhibition.
The pieces on show have to be gathered from galleries all over the world, and sent to Utrecht in the next coming weeks— good luck with that, Gerrit and Jennemiek!
A FAMILY AFFAIR – opening sunday 12 oktober 2014

World’s first one-person restaurant EENMAAL
pops up at Lensvelt in Studio Job scenography
Lensvelt is thrilled to announce their hosting of the pop-up restaurant EENMAAL, ‘the first one-person restaurant in the world and an attractive place for temporary disconnection’. The concept is developed by the creative agency of Marina van Goor MVGCA and commenced a year ago at Bos en Lommerweg. Boosted by a whirlwind of media attention EENMAAL will be introduced in New York and Antwerp this autumn as well as in the Lensvelt HUB at Herengracht in Amsterdam. Studio Job will be complimenting the restaurant experience with their design objects.
