Hans Lensvelt introduced Space Encounters at Sony as the architectural firm that could fulfill this complex assignment.
Lensvelt supplied the office equipment for this, including the gray – modest but far from boring – Boring Collection.

In the race for the coveted ARC17 Interior Award, an initiative of the Architect and SV, the winning Space Encounters encountered two formidable opponents: Ex Interiors with the Renovation Dentistry Radboud University and OMA with Rijnstraat 8. The jury, under the direction of architect Michiel Hofman, selected the projects from a record number of one hundred entries and chose tonight, November 30, in the Amsterdam Kauwgomballen factory for Space Encounters Office for Architecture in collaboration with Lensvelt Contract. A convincing winner with an innovative and idiosyncratic office concept.

Cool & sfeerrijk
In addition to other top companies such as Massive Music, Wink, ID & T and Gibson, Sony Music Entertainment found a new home in the A’DAM Tower in the former iconic Shell Tower on the other side of the IJ. Space Encounters came up with a striking interior as a cool ‘hang-out’ where artists like to drop by and work for forty Sony Music employees. For example, together with Lensvelt Contract they offer an original and atmospheric answer to the often boring standard work environments.

Grijs en groen
Besides attention to the light and the wide view, Space Encounters came up with multifunctional parts that refer to the music industry. The staircase also serves as an artists’ bar and the vinyl conference table is also a DJ booth.
That quirky vision is shared by Joost Baks, Gijs Baks, Remi Versteeg, and Stijn de Weerd with design entrepreneur and design connoisseur Hans Lensvelt.

For example, the colors gray and green, and nothing else, can be found in the Sony Music headquarters. While work and leisure in the music industry often mix, they wanted to create two clear spheres: work and play, with green for relaxation and gray for the all loose circular office furniture.

‘The work part has been designed as irritable, businesslike and modest. The chairs, tables and cabinets of the Boring Collection were actually the only choice, ‘say the men from Space Encounters.

(niet) Boring Collection
The Boring Collection from Lensvelt fits perfectly with the rugged concrete construction of the fa├žade, which has been deliberately hidden and is even an important part of the interior. With the gray powder coated steel archetypal Boring set # 1: a Boring desk, Boring Task Chair, Boring Bin and Boring Cabinet, a Sony employee creates a modest but far from boring place where he can work concentrated with a view of the IJ.

For the green environment, Lensvelt supplied the ideal relax armchairs: the naturally green upholstered AVL Lazy Modernists by Joep van Lieshout, supplemented with modern classics from the Lensvelt collection such as the Maarten Baas 101 Chair, AVL Office Chair, AVL Koker Chair and the Ronald Hooft PH1 Barstool.
