Remy & Veenhuizen Bamboo Chair
With their woven bamboo chair, the innovative and creative Dutch designer duo Tejo Remy and René Veenhuizen have given a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘nesting in the chair’. The 24-cm-wide and 10-mm-thick bamboo strips are bent into semi-circles thus fully utilizing the flexibility and litheness of bamboo. This curvilinear chair very much looks like a tub chair, with the designers bending the material to its limits in order to achieve an interesting nest-like appearance. Bamboo is a very sturdy and resilient material, and is also one of the fastest growing plants on the planet, so it is no wonder that it became synonymous with eco-friendly design. It has already been dubbed “the building material of the 21st century”. The designers, especially Remy, are known for their environmental awareness which they have been integrating into their product design for quite some time. Remy and Veenhuizen have also chosen this ‘miracle grass’ because it is renewable, lightweight, versatile, sustainable and can withstand changing temperatures, and wear and tear that occurs over time. The Bamboo Chair is a limited edition piece, and its basket-like shape provides excellent ergonomic properties and comfort. The chair weighs 13 kilos,
