Every time Baas participates at the Milan Design Week, he attracts attention with something unexpected and outstanding. This year the designer and Lensvelt took over Ristorante Pizzeria Dinky at Viale Brianza in Milan, and transformed it into BAR BAAS. The name is a nod to the famous Bar Basso. Lensvelt and Baas produced the Dinky Edition especially for the restaurant. A limited edition of 100 pieces of the Maarten Baas 101 Chair, will be executed with a remarkable pink frame and pink upholstery, matching the colors of Ristorante Pizzeria Dinky.

The restaurant is both Hans Lensvelts and Maarten Baas’ favorite restaurant in Milan. And the hosts Giovanni and Guiseppe are now personal friends. Lensvelt and Baas temporarily use the restaurant as a stage for their bright pink Dinky Editions that match the interior. During the design week in which everyone screams for attention, the pink chairs seduce the audience and call for attention.

The place is decorated with vases that Baas designed for Cor Unum and a limited editon of Basten Leijh’s light spot for Modular Lighting Instruments: the Médard – of course in pink.

Lensvelts Dinky Edition of Maarten Baas 101 Chairs
The Dinky Edition is an exclusive family member of the ever-growing Maarten Baas Chairs family that the artist designed together with Lensvelt. Opposite Ristorante Dinky, under the arches of Ventura Centrale, you can find the variety of Maarten Baas Chairs: stackable, non-stackable, upholstered in numerous colors, with and without armrests, the new Barstool with high or low back and the versions in European oak. The chairs are part of ALL NEW, the installation of Lensvelt and Modular Lighting Instruments with the scenography of JPS.architects.

Thanks to a smart adaptation in the production process, the successful serial-produced Maarten Baas Chair always gets a slightly different shape. The backrests of these unique characters resemble faces with recognizable human traits: rebellious, endearing, stubborn.

Maarten Baas Chairs: stackable, upholstered, with and without armrests, the new Barstool with high or low back and in oak
The Maarten Baas 101 Chair was first introduced during the Milano Design Week 2017 when Maarten Baas and Lensvelt presented the installation ‘May I Have Your Attention, Please’ at Ventura Centrale. The different seats and horns that whisper countless opinions, advices, and likes, refer to the thousands of designers and companies that always cry for attention in Milan. Attention as currency is a recurring theme in Baas’ presentations.

The installation, which was part of Maarten Baas’ solo exhibition Hide & Seek in the Groninger Museum, won the prestigious Milano Design Award 2017 for the best concept. Lensvelt also won this prize a year earlier together with Space Encounters for the remarkable gray Boring Collection. Maarten Baas won The Best Show Award in 2014 for his solo presentation ‘Baas is in Town’, again about his love-hate relationship with the Salone del Mobile ‘circus’.

Have a drink, a bite and take seat on the pink Dinky Edition at pop-up restaurant BAR BAAS, Viale Brianza 36, Milan. And visit also ALL NEW at Ventura Centrale, Via Ferrante Aporti 19.
