In the newly decorated entrance area of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, there are 75 chairs from W.H. Gispen. Delivered, because the museum has not bought this furniture but has been in use for a period of twelve years. As the loan of paintings has long been part of the possibilities of museums, Lensvelt is the first design furniture label in which this kind of ‘loan loan’ of furniture is possible. ‘Because the decline in use’, according to Hans Lensvelt, ‘much more fits with this time.’ The chairs remain from Lensvelt and this will maintain the furniture delivered in the meantime.

Museum director Beatrix Ruf chose the W.H. Gispen Easy Chairs itself: it became Model 301 without and Model 302 with armrests. Especially for the museum, the easy Chair is upholstered in different shades of green Kvadrat fabric. And this is how this elegant, aesthetic, iconic and high-quality Dutch design chair stands in a Dutch museum.

The Gispen Easy Chair is also called the Triennale chair, after the Milan Triennale where model 302 was crowned in 1954. The successful model 302 with a frame of steel wire, Gispen had designed for Kembo at the time. After the acquisition of Kembo, Lensvelt has been taking care of about seven best models from the fifties of W.H. Gispen. One of them is this Gispen Easy Chair where visitors of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam can recently relax or drink coffee at a matching W.H. Gispen Coffee Table.

The Gispen furniture is in good company by Richard Hutten’s No Sign or Design Chair, also republished by Lensvelt. From the archetype chair, with which the famous designer debuted with great success when he graduated at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1989, more than twenty copies will soon be in the library of the museum. Visitors can sit on the No Sign or Design Chair in white beech wood on matching No Sign or Design tables.
