Maarten Baas (19 February 1978) is a Dutch artist/designer. Baas is often described as a so-called author-designer, whose designs balance on the fine line between art and design. Baas is seen as one of the most influential Dutch designers of the early 21st certury. His work is known as rebellious, humorous, intellectual, artistic and theatrical.
Every year at the Salone del Mobile we witness a cry for attention. Large corporations with spectacular presentations, young designers with renewed ideas. See me, hear me, look at my work!
This was the inspiration for Maarten Baas to shamelessly use the title ‘May I have your attention, Please?’ for his presentation together with Lensvelt at the Salone of 2017. This presentation was the introduction of the Maarten Baas 101 Chair, designed by Maarten Baas for Lensvelt.
In 2017 Baas en Lensvelt won the Milano Design Award for Best concept.
