Designer
Maarten Baas, acquired the reputation of being one of the most influential Dutch designers of the 21st century. His works are most known for being rebellious, playful, theatrical, artsy and often embedding an intellectual twist. His creations are displayed internationally (MoMa, Victoria & Albert Museum, Rijksmuseum and plenty more) as well as in many private collections.
The story
Baas and Lensvelt’s initial collaboration started in 2017 when launching a collection of customizable chairs at Salone del Mobile in Milan, featuring irregularly shaped backrests with a hand-drawn aesthetic. The presentation “May I have your attention, please” was the introduction of the 101 Chair that Baas had designed for Lensvelt. This very concept won the Milano Design Award, for Best Concept 2017.
Today it forms the basis of the expanded 101 Chair family and is available in several variations. This includes models with stackable frames and optional armrests, as well as high and low barstool versions. Each chair is available with a choice of one of Baas' eight distinctive backrests, which all evoke loose hand drawings of human faces.
